Human again

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

After 4 days on antibiotics I’m finally starting to feel human again - except of course for the wonder of a job that the antibiotics are performing on my GI tract. It’s nice to not feel sick after spending the last nine days suffering. Last night I ended up passing out at about 9:00 in the evening, and woke up this morning a little before 7:30 feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Now here I sit doing laundry, trying beat the ’sick smell’ out of my condo with Fabreeze, and reading some of the funniest blog articles about oral sex and it’s relationship to the right wing gay agenda that I’ve ever read. I’m also nursing my ankle which I managed to tweak slightly while roughing around with Skype at the dog park this morning - my body really does have it in for me doesn’t it…

Tally ho weekend - here I come!

Of changing names and ritual

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

One of my friends has just taken a very big step in his life: he has chosen his name. For him the reason is religious, and he has picked his Hebrew name as a part of his personal spiritual path. Having chosen myself to pick a name that suits my personality I have an inkling of what a significant milestone in his life this must be for him. Changing your name is more than just changing a label, it’s putting a stake in the ground and expressing to the world who you really are.

Welcome Akiva Raanan Martin, may your life’s experiences (including both a chosen name, and soon to be married man) be full of friends and fortune.

Anti-evolution belief on the rise

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

./ just pointed me at an article in Newsweek where they found that about 48% of Americans don’t believe in evolution and answered no to ‘Is evolution well-supported by evidence and widely accepted within the scientific community?’ in their poll.

Are science and religion about to start a civil war? With how pervasive technology is getting and the level of scientific understanding of the world it’s a possibility.

Politik-digital

Cool - my grandpa’s hands are famous!

The German site Politik-digital.de appears to be focused getting seniors active in technology and other tech-related issues is using this photo on their website - I’m sure my grandpa will be pleased to hear it given that German is his native tongue.

Del.icio.us

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I’m always behind the bandwagon on adopting Yahoo’s recent acquisitions but I finally picked up Del.icio.us. Del.icio.us is a social networking and tagging site for URLS. It’s kind of like Digg (although predates it by years), but with much more of a focus on tagging things.

Do you use Del.icio.us? Add sparktography as a friend, or just check out links I’ve tagged.

Project Re:M1xed

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

My friend Mike and I had an idea of creating a movie mashup entirely from other movies. Fair use gives us the right to use up to 8 seconds of another work without violating their copyright, so why not make a short film (5-10 minutes) made entirely from 8 second or less clips of other movies.

So far we are thinking doing a homage to cult Sci-Fi movies by making our own from the leavings of others. We have a library of 750+ DVD’s to pull samples from, and access to decent video editing tools to make our job easier. We may interleave audio and video from different sources simultaneously to allow for more dialog and action options, but only 8 seconds per sample will be allowed.

We are looking for help in everything from envisioning to helping polish the final project. Obviously this is not for money, but it should prove to be a blast. If you have creative ideas that might make this better we want to hear them - join us in our creative endeavor - just leave a comment or drop me an email!

Twitter: just another fad or here to stay

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Ohs Nos - not another phone based social networking site! I didn’t like SLAM, I positively hated Googles Dodgeball so why should the new clone Twitter be any different? I’m not sure, but as always I’m fearlessly giving it a try. So far it seems to be less annoying and invasive than other solutions (it let’s you use IM rather than your phone if you prefer) and has a pretty configurable personal page feature.

Check out my Twitter page for updates, or just add ’sparktography’ as your friend if you have an account.
