A new look

Monday, June 19th, 2006

A quick update from a rather event filled few days. Last Thursday it was hot outside - so hot (to my body that was adjusted to the cold and rain) that it pushed me over the edge on going for a new look. As any viewer will be able to tell this new look involves significantly less hair! I shaved off most of my head, and then trimmed up my facial hair quite significantly.

After the fact Brien accused me of stealing his look, which I decry, but regardless he’s taking it as a point of flattery. To be honest it is kind of similar, but I didn’t even think of it when I was doing my whole hair modification process.

On the topic of Brien he celebrated his 26th birthday on Saturday. There was much eating of sushi and drinking of fine beverages. I unfortunately got a but sick to my stomach so I ended up leaving shortly before midnight, but he had a good time and given that it was his birthday that’s pretty much all that mattered.

Aside from Oblivion and working on a few web projects I did rather little over the weekend. It was a lot of relaxation and just catching up on quality time with Skype and my couch.

The end of the road

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

Last night was quite the experience. My co-workers took me out to Chez Gaudy for my goodbye party from work. The evening started at 6pm, and involved lots of drinking and madness. At about 9:30 we got kicked out of Chez Gaudy and all ended up trooping back to my place (a convenient two blocks away).

I had a good deal to drink - at least two bottles of wine, and about a fifth of vodka all said and done. The partying at my place went late into the evening, and finally at about 2am the last of the recruiters left me to collapse into my couch and relax.

I’m going to miss the crew, but I’m still v. excited about getting started in my new career. Getting back into technology really has been too long in coming!

More studio madness

Jason and I yet again did the photography and such today. This afternoons shoot was all about sexulizing Jason’s furniture and making great shots like this. I love the way the harsh light interacts with the soft light to make interesting shadows.

I’m now laying around the house trying to get up the gumption to walk to Six Arms with Brien for some dinner. I’m feeling particularly lazy now that I’ve gotten so much done this morning so this evening is going to be all about movies on the couch for me.

Sweet Blood Greyhound (or: Greyhound v2)

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

I’m also v. excited to introduce version 2 of the venerable Greyhound: The Sweet Blood Greyhound.

For those of you drunkenly following along at home:

4 ice cubes
1.5oz of Vanilla Vodka (sweeter than normal vodka)
3oz White grapefruit juice
1oz Cranberry juice (for color more than anything else)

Combine these ingredients in a rocks glass, and serve to the nearest lush. The result is simply divine! If you are in an ultra-gay mood add an umbrella for the garnish, otherwise a single maraschino cherry will do quite nicely.

The sweetness of the vanilla vodka is balanced with the tartness of the cranberry and grapefruit juice leaving you with a pink-orange concoction that barely tastes of booze, yet gives you the warm fuzzy feelings that we all so crave!

Le Greyhound

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

God those things are tasty! Last night degenerated into quite a number of greyhounds at Charlies (and of course some Blackened Chicken goodness) followed by going home and passing the heck out. Good thing too - after 14 hours of sleep I feel great!

It’s good that I’ve finally caught back up on sleep after my week. Today I get to catch up on other things around the house (which thanks to Dom’s continued strange devotion has not fallen apart in the last month) and hang out with Scott to celebrate the new job.

Jason just got his new camera and I’m v. excited to go play with him and do some creepy babydoll photography. Not sure exactly when thats going to happen, but I’m sure it will be soon.

Almost there

Friday, April 14th, 2006

The week actually finished up nearly perfect for me. I got my new job, only have a week left to endure recruiting, and got to pick up my precious car back from the dealership today from the repair work from being rear-ended.

With the exception of a color mis-match on the body work the dealership did a great job on fixing my car. They are being pretty cool about it and are going to repaint the bumper for me in a couple of weeks.

As excited as I am about starting my new career in a week I’m a little worried about how to motivate myself at my job next week. There is an incredible temptation to just coast and not really do any actual work, but I have to find ways to resist that. After all they are being kind enough to invite me to stay for two weeks notice so I should be kind enough not to take advantage of it.

On a slightly un-related topic I’ve discovered Greyhounds. Ken introduced me to them last night and I must say that I’m becoming quite enamored with them. The grapefruit juice does a fantastic job of blending with the vodka and making something entirely drinkable. I’ve had 5 of them now (in less than 24 hours) and am getting rather sassy as a result. Here’s to sobering up tomorrow ;)

Epic ‘Illin

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

I’ve now officially been sick for an entire week, and I’m right ready to be done with it! I wrestle with the question of if going to work at all this week was a good idea. Sadly I think I made it all worse last night:

After leaving work a bit early (it was a holiday after all) I thought I was feeling well enough to go out and get some food. Jason and I went to Tre Charlies for the usual good-food experience. Sadly there was more than the normal amount of drama and tragedy, but alas, such is the way of the cold-hearted city.

Upon getting home I was starting to feel a bit worse for wear again so I popped in the Matrix trilogy, downed some Nyquil, and cuddled up with puppy. About 20 hours later I had gotten about 10 hours of sleep, and made my way through the Matrix, Reloaded, Revolutions, and more special features than you can shake a virtual stick at.

Tonight I’m actually feeling worse than I’ve felt since Monday. I just ventured out to the QFC to get some more flu meds (thank you Thera-flu), some sickly food, and some Gatorade.

In continuing with my epic cinema theme I just popped in the The Fellowship of the Ring, and am yet again cuddling up with my couch for the long haul. I am supposed to go watch some of the Alien series with Jason, but if I’m feeling this badly I think I’ll give it a miss.

In sickness and health

Monday, March 6th, 2006

That bastard Jason got me sick on Saturday! Not that I can really blame him though: I knew he was sick and still decided to go out to the movies with him. For a while on Sunday I thought I was just feeling badly because of nicotine withdrawals but finally came to the conclusion that I was just plain sick.

I really should not have gone out to the Oscar’s with the gay contingent but did anyway (big surprise there). Luckily there was Dayquil there so I got to experience cold medicine and wine mixing together in my system for that extra fluffy kind of afternoon. Once the Dayquil wore off I felt crappy again and had to go home and rest.

Today I’m here at work. I’m feeling better than I was yesterday, but still wish I could get home. I’m in a rather foul mood and it’s not helping me get motivated to get any of the positions I am working on filled. If I don’t start to feel better soon I might go home and cuddle with puppy early today and hope that makes me feel better.

The good news I am pleased to announce today is that I’ve officially made it through an entire week of quitting smoking! From here on out I’ll slap an “easy” sticker on the whole affair and stop posting about it!

Ultra-dissapointment

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

Mr. Jason joined me today for a cinema experience: Ultraviolet. With Milla Jovovich in it I was expecting an action thriller, and unfortunately I got not merely an ultra-colorful and fun action flick: I got a horrible movie.

The action was beautiful and creative, the color palette was bright and happy, the visual effects were unique and very well done. Where the movie fell down was where they tried to make it touching, tried to make it a love story. About an hour into it there is a scene that takes place on a merry-go-round that is simply ridiculous. Milla and her on screen pre-pubescent counterpart talk, and it gets all mushy. It was so bad that people were loudly laughing in the theater.

It’s really sad because any editor with an ounce of talent could have taken the raw footage from the movie and made a pretty kick-ass 4/5 stars movie - but instead they used all the wrong non-action footage and got it a mere 1/5 stars. Sadly William Yeh (the editor) needs to be shot to make me feel better now.

Oh well - at least Jason and I had fun shopping for his new computer (to replace the one that was stolen by the corporate spies) and at least we got a good meal out of the evening if not a good movie.
